Concern is growing about higher gas and electricity costs for UK consumers, it has emerged.
European Union (EU) finance ministers are meeting in Manchester to deal with the high price of oil, which is negatively impacting on the bloc's consumers.
The BBC says that the EU will try to save power in Europe by using more renewable energy sources or by varying suppliers.
The news comes as American gas and electricity consumers are facing price hikes because of the chaos caused by hurricane Katrina.
US Energy secretary Samuel Bodman warned that natural gas would be 52 per cent more expensive and electricity 11 per cent more expensive than in 2004.
"It's roughly four to five per cent of the American refinery capacity will be delayed and starting up I would guess in another couple of months," he said.
