npower launches new fixed-price tariff

8 March 2006

UK energy supplier npower has announced the launch of a new product, the 2009 fixed-price tariff.

And the company has said that the new product will carry no cancellation fees, something it feels should be in place to stop customers getting penalised for wanting "peace of mind".

Kevin Miles, managing director of npower retail, said: "It's wrong to penalise customers who want 'peace of mind!'

"By charging a cancellation fee of £50, British Gas is trapping their customers, forcing them to cough up if they choose to switch to a cheaper supplier. We challenge British Gas to put a stop to this practice."

The fact that no cancellation fees are attached to the npower 2009 fixed-price tariff means that customers will not be trapped if prices fall in the future, according to the company.

According to npower, customers with the British Gas 2010 fixed-price product will be charged a fee if they leave before April 30th 2010.
