One of the UK's largest electricity and gas suppliers has announced that it is to increase its targets for improving energy efficiency in its customer's homes.
Powergen, the country's second largest energy supplier, upped its targets in support of a new package of government measures on the issue, announced as part of the Budget.
The company said it now aimed to give 60,000 more homes cavity wall insulation, on top of its current target.
It also revealed that it would be linking up with local authorities and third parties to promote the issue of energy efficiency in UK homes.
Nick Horler, managing director of Powergen retail, said: "Although our current energy efficiency commitment is stretching, we're committed to working with the government to meet its carbon reduction targets and will challenge ourselves to take it one step further."
He added: "We have real expertise in delivering energy efficiency schemes working with councils, local authorities and other partners to deliver street-by-street improvements, whilst also investing in the development of technologies to reduce carbon emissions. Today's announcement gives us real scope to deliver further energy efficiency improvements."
