British Gas is the most expensive energy supplier for the vast majority of consumers in Wales, according to the country's industry watchdog.
Energywatch Wales said that the company was the costliest in all regions apart from those customers in north Wales using prepayment meters for their electricity. For them, npower was the most expensive energy supplier.
The watchdog also urged consumers to take matters into their own hands and compare prices to find a better deal.
Its director Wendy Davis said that recent increases in the cost of energy could be partly offset by finding a cheaper supplier.
"The time has come for the consumer to fight back," she said.
"There are better deals to be had out there, and energywatch Wales can point people in the right direction.
"But ultimately, people have to make things happen for themselves if they are going to take the sting out of these very high bills," she added.
Gas bills have seen a 63% increase over the past three years, with electricity costs shooting up by 42%.
