Homes in the UK are to be given an energy rating as part of a new government scheme to boost energy efficiency.
From next June, every house bought and sold in the UK will be given a rating of between A and G, marking the energy efficiency and carbon emissions produced by the house.
Reports will also include advice on what can be done to improve efficiency, such as the installation of insulation or solar panels.
"Given the growing challenge from climate change and rising energy costs, I think people should be entitled to this kind of information about the home they buy," said housing minister Yvette Cooper.
"By providing people with sound advice on how to improve energy efficiency this will help sellers and buyers who want to do their bit to cut carbon emissions as well as cutting their fuel bills too."
The Energy Performance Certificates will be included as part of compulsory Home Information Packs, due to be introduced next year.
