E.ON UK plans gas facility in Yorkshire

6 September 2006

The company that runs Powergen, E.ON UK, is planning a public exhibition of its proposals for a new gas storage facility in East Yorkshire.

Residents will have a chance to examine the plans for the underground gas storage facility north of Aldbrough later this month.

E.ON UK submitted its planning application for the energy facility in August following successful seismic testing to assess the area's suitability for underground salt cavern gas storage.

Derick Cottell, engineering manager for the scheme, said: "We're still at a relatively early stage with proposals but are really keen to work with the local community from the outset.

"The exhibition is going to be a great opportunity for people to find out more and also to tell us what they think."

"There's an urgent need for more gas storage in the UK so we're hoping to submit a full planning application to the council later this year."
