uSwitch has commented on the decision by Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) to raise its prices.
The average household bill for SSE customers is to increase from £865 to £962 with gas increasing by 12.2% and electricity by 9.4%.
This means an increase in gas bills from £541 to £607 and electricity bills from £341 to £374.
Alan Tattersall, director of home services at the price comparison and switching website, spoke about the price rises.
He said: "Today's announcement is the 12th price rise to be announced by the Big Six in 2006 alone.
"It is disappointing to see that Scottish and Southern Energy will be implementing further price rises in the New Year as they currently offer the most competitive deal in the market and are on average £254 cheaper than British Gas."
