The Hyde Housing Association has helped hundreds of local residents to save energy and therefore lower their bills - and now the project has been recognised with a 'Commended' award in the government office for the South East Renewable Energy Awards.
Energy efficiency enhancing measures include solar panels, heat recovery extraction fans and high efficiency condensation boilers. One dwelling even boasted a wind turbine.
Initially aimed at reducing fuel bills and fuel poverty for local residents, this particular scheme was also designed to act as a pilot to monitor noise levels and energy output of energy saving devices.
Hyde Housing Association's technical officer, Peter McHale, commented on 24dash.com: "Hyde Housing Association welcomed the opportunity to work in partnership with Southampton City Council to help improve the energy measures to our properties and thereby benefit our customers in minimising fuel bills.
"We hope this is the start of a concerted effort to improve energy efficiency measures in our existing dwellings in the inner city areas in partnership with The Housing Solutions Division."
