The Carbon Trust, an independent organisation which looks to find money-saving ways to lessen carbon emissions, has announced that it is to begin research into how wind energy can help homeowners save money on their energy bills.
It is hoped that this new study will help to work out how much carbon is currently being saved by installed turbines, since estimating electricity production via wind turbines is currently very difficult.
John Callaghan, Technology Strategy Manager for the Carbon Trust, said that the organisation was most interested in domestic wind energy options as it would help consumers to understand potential energy savings from installing a turbine at home.
"It will help consumers and organisations that are considering installing small wind turbines to evaluate how to do this and give new insights to policy makers about the carbon savings contribution that small-scale wind energy can make," he added.
Homeowners who want to install a wind turbine in their house are reminded that they will need to contact their local council to apply for permission before they can make use of the potentially money-saving devices.
