Consumers urged to switch to online tariffs

<div class="rxbodyfield" xmlns:o="urn:www.microsoft.com/office" xmlns:st1="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags" xmlns:st2="urn:www.microsoft.com/smarttags2" xmlns:w="urn:www.microsoft.com/word" xmlns:x="urn:www.microsoft.com/excel"><p>Energy customers are being urged to look into switching their energy supplier to one with a competitive online tariff as they continue the ongoing price war with paperless billing.</p><p>Cheaper tariffs are available for online customers simply because the supplier is saving money by not printing out statements and bills each month, which allows the savings to be passed directly onto the customer.</p><p>Ann Robinson, Director of Consumer Policy at the price comparison and switching website uSwitch.com, said: &quot;Suppliers are making it clear that the best deals to be had are online so consumers should dump expensive standard tariffs and move onto the most competitive online tariff as quickly as possible. </p><p>&quot;If everybody on a standard tariff was to do this it would really hit suppliers where it hurts, in the pocket,&quot; she added.</p><p>The current price war is being fought over online tariffs and customers who switch from a standard plan to an online plan could save an average of 10% on their electricity and gas bills.</p><p>Currently, npower&#39;s online tariff is the cheapest on the market, following its counter offensive price cuts in response to British Gas&#39; cheaper rates announcement last week.
