Despite concerns about the carbon footprint of our homes, only a small proportion of Britons actually plan to do anything to reduce their carbon emissions, research has found.
According to energy supplier Powergen, although 69% of UK homeowners say they care about the levels of carbon they create, nearly two thirds of Britons say they have done all they can to reduce their carbon footprint.
What's more, over 50% say taking steps to be greener is too expensive, while 49% say the issue is so confusing for them they do not know where to start.
Although 95% of people now say they turn off a light in a room when they are not using it and 85% say they only boil the water they need, just 57% have fitted loft insulation - one of the best ways of reducing carbon emissions from homes.
Nick Horler, Managing Director of Powergen Retail, said: "Our research shows that homeowners are starting to get the message about how simple changes in behaviour can be effective in reducing bills and carbon emissions.
"But, as a nation, we mustn't become complacent about cutting emissions, which is why we're looking at easy ways in which consumers can reduce their carbon footprint."
The average home emits over five tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
