Scottish and Southern Electricity: Help is available for special needs customers

26 March 2007

Scottish and Southern Electricity is raising awareness of its commitment to help its special needs customers during periods where they are left without power in their homes.

Power cuts are unfortunately an irritation most consumers have had to deal with at one time or another, a situation which can leave vulnerable customers feeling nervous and alone.

That's why Scottish and Southern Energy is imploring its customers with special needs to join up to its Priority Customer Register, which will allow it to keep its vulnerable customers informed about its progress in restoring power.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Power Distribution Networks Manager, Mike Green said: "We do everything we can to maintain electricity supplies for our customers but power cuts do occur from time to time, either to protect the safety of engineers carrying out essential maintenance work, or as a result of damage caused by severe bad weather or by third parties damaging our equipment.

"We would like customers who are disabled, chronically sick, or with other special needs to get in touch. Then, if we need to switch off their power to do essential maintenance we'll let them know at least five days in advance so they can make any arrangements they need to."

Mr Green added that if there was an unplanned power cut, the service would be used to try to call our special needs customers first to tell them what is happening.

Customers who wish to sign up to the Priority Customer list should call 0800 622 838.
