The UK's biggest energy provider, British Gas, has the poorest customer service record in the entire sector - stark new figures from energywatch have revealed.
Customers of the provider are three times more likely on average to have problems with their gas or electricity than those who use other firms, the research found.
Worse, there has been a four-fold increase in the amount of British Gas customers contacting energywatch for help over the past two years, it says.
Graham Kerr at energywatch said: "Despite signs of improvement by British Gas over the summer, the company is still in a league of its own when it comes to providing poor customer service.
"These figures show how most of the household names in the energy industry still have not got to grips with customer service."
While Mr Kerr acknowledged that there had been progress made by British Gas, he went on to point out that many customers were still suffering "frustration" from its "poor customer service".
The firm's customers are seven times as likely to approach energywatch than those of the best performing provider, Scottish and Southern.
