Around 9.3 million Britons have never switched energy provider and could miss out on big savings as a result, uSwitch said yesterday.
According to research, UK households can save up to £325 per year on their gas and electricity bills simply by shopping around for the best deal.
To help consumers out, uSwitch has issued a ten-point plan for saving on bills - recommending purchasing a plan on the internet, setting up a Direct Debit and boosting home energy efficiency through insulation, as well as using price comparison services for finding the best deal.
Ann Robinson, Director of Consumer Policy at uSwitch, commented: "Switching is a painless process - there is no danger of your gas or electricity being cut off and it certainly doesn’t involve pipes being dug up.
"The best chance that consumers now have of seeing lower energy bills is by taking action themselves."
The importance of shopping around might become more important still with the announcements from British Gas and nPower over the past week that their tracker products are to cost more from the New Year.
uSwitch predicts that gas and electricity bills in Britain as a whole could be hiked by 15% over the next few months.
The average UK energy bill now stands at £912.
