Undertaking a 'New Year financial detox' could result in householders slashing their energy bills by one third, it has been suggested.
According to new uSwitch figures, consumers can save up to £325 on their annual electricity and gas bills by making some simple changes.
With the average UK energy bill standing at £912, this would mean big savings for most - especially as uSwitch is also anticipating price rises of 10-15% and £1,000 bills in the New Year.
Director of Consumer Policy at uSwitch Ann Robinson said: "Households could save up to £325 on their gas and electricity bills just by shopping around for a better deal.
"The golden rules of switching are: move to dual fuel (getting both gas and electricity from one supplier), pay by Direct Debit and sign up to an online plan to make sure that you are getting the best available deal."
As well as these three simple steps, uSwitch recommends customers to check up annually on whether their energy plan remains competitive, to improve home insulation and to save energy by turning appliances off when they are not being used.
