Call for more nuclear power

26 March 2008

The nuclear energy sector in the UK should be expanded in the years ahead, one politician is to say this week.

Business Secretary John Hutton will call for a greater percentage of this type of power in the UK to provide a greater amount of energy and boost employment.

Moreover, he will claim that the environment would see the positives of a greater level of nuclear power being utilised.

He is expected to say on March 26th: "I want Britain to be leading the world in the development and application of this new generation of low carbon power technology."

Mr Hutton added that there has never in the past been a similar level of demand for both "skills" and "finance" in the nuclear power sector.

His ideas were granted approval by Unite official Dougie Rooney, who said that "quality of life" may be improved.

Earlier this week, Conservative party Leader David Cameron suggested that energy prices under Gordon Brown have risen sharply.
