Figures not 'proof' everyone is benefiting

3 April 2008

In response to the Ofgem energy switching figures released this week, uSwitch.com has said that this is not "proof" the market is in good shape.

While the firm stated that such statistics are "welcomed", there is further work to be done until consumers are swapping their deals "sensibly" and "properly".

Head of Home Services at uSwitch.com Tim Wolfenden commented that the vulnerable still need to be helped by new deals as a high proportion of those over 60 have never changed deals.

"There are some great energy deals out there, but many potential switchers may be put off because these deals are labelled 'online' - more needs to be done to explain these and make them accessible to as many groups as possible," he commented.

He added that the market is currently competitive but further measures can be taken if everyone is to see the positives from good services.

Ofgem announced this week that five million people switched their energy deals in 2007, in a bid to beat rising charges.
