It has been revealed one of the largest suppliers in Britain, npower, is to increase prices by a maximum of 20% for internet customers this year on one product.
The tariff that preceded this new deal, Sign Online 10, has been withdrawn by the company and this has triggered the rises, reports the Times.
Sign Online 11, the fresh product, will be more expensive for new customers in some areas of the country.
But consumers already on the Sign Online 10 deal will not see their charges increase and instead remain on that tariff.
In response, a spokesman at npower failed to acknowledge the deal and did not confirm the situation.
"We don't really talk about the online tariffs which can be withdrawn at any time ... there are no plans to increase the price for any of our other tariffs at the moment," he commented.
This week, in other energy news, Centrica announced that it will oppose any bids made by RWE or EDF Energy for British Energy.
