Permission for bio-energy plant 'granted'

1 May 2008

Proposals for a new bio-energy venue in Lostock have been given permission to proceed.__

It is expected that the plant, to be built by Bedminster International, will take on about 200,000 tonnes of waste on a yearly basis and convert it into energy, reports the Northwich Guardian.

And the Waste Recycling Group has suggested that an incinerator should be built at the same location.

However, those in opposition to the plans have suggested that the local area does not produce enough waste for this to be viable.

Brian Cartwright, chairman of Chain - one of the groups protesting the plans, said that the development would be unnecessary.

He told the publication: "Cheshire is about to be split into east and west which would mean we'd have two waste facilities in west Cheshire and we don't have anywhere near enough waste. We just do not need it."

In other energy news, it was claimed this week that npower is to raise prices for new internet customers after the withdrawal of the Sign Online 10 item.
