The French outfit EDF Energy leads the way in the bidding for British Energy, with offers due to be made to the British firm this week.
It is expected that EDF will offer about £6 billion in total for the partially government-owned business, reports the Guardian.
And the French firm is believed to be talking with Centrica over a potential coming together in any offer package, the publication states.
Moreover, other organisations may still attempt to match the offer and try to beat EDF, such as RWE.
There had been opposition to a move for British Energy by a singular firm from independent generators, as they believe this bidding outfit may have its own customer base to serve.
Competition may well be hindered on the market if one of the outfits with generating capabilities purchases the nuclear provider, opponents such as merchant generators have stated.
Last week, Centrica suggested that it may fight any potential bid for British Energy by RWE or EDF.
