Norway 'could assist European market'

27 May 2008

The energy market in Europe could be helped if Norway develops new sea wind parks, one official has claimed.

Oil and Energy Minister in the country Aaslaug Haga highlighted that there is potential for wind power to be created on the local market there.

And green forms of power from a number of sources such as wind or wave energy could allow the European Union to hit renewable targets, Norway's Energy Council noted.

"The thinking is that Norway is blessed, is lucky, to have big energy resources. There is undoubtedly a large potential for wind power," Ms Haga commented.

Furthermore, a report from the think tank asserted that about 40 terrawatt hours of energy in this sector could come from the named sources by 2020 or 2025.

Energywatch recently claimed that consumers in the south of Wales are being charged more than those in the north of the country and England for electricity.
