If the Conservatives get into power, then more of an emphasis will be placed on tidal energy in the coming years, Leader of the party David Cameron will assert.
Mr Cameron is expected to state that Britain can take advantage of its coastline in order to generate fresh renewable energy, reports the Independent.
He will give a talk in London today (June 16th), following the connection of tidal energy equipment to the national grid.
"I am today committing a Conservative government to making this research and development a priority for Britain. The next Conservative government will put rocket boosters behind this area of research," the politician will say.
And he will also suggest that a debate will be opened up so that the government will have to answer why little has been done in terms of utilising marine energy.
Research has suggested that 20% of electricity in the UK could be gleaned from tidal source, Mr Cameron is to outline.
Last week, it was revealed that Iberdrola has pulled out of the race to buy into British Energy.
