Energy payers have been urged to look at the amount being paid by the people living near them in an effort to cut bills.
Leader of the Conservative Party David Cameron suggested that if the Tories get into power then consumers will be able to see their neighbours' costs.
Mr Cameron referred to a proposal termed "positive social norms" and stated that naturally individuals copy others around them.
"It seems to me a non-bossy, non-interventionist ... way of just nudging behaviour in the right direction," he commented.
He stated that the dependency of the public on fossil fuels could be decreased in this manner and that the environment may get a boost.
And the average price of bills could be lowered, he asserted, if a greater focus is put on the documents received by others.
The politician, speaking in London, was also expected to look at how tidal energy could be used to meet demand for power in the years ahead.
