Energy chiefs to meet with MPs

24 June 2008

Officials from a number of the biggest energy companies in the UK are set to come in for questioning from a group of politicians. They are likely to face questions about the rising price of fuel and bills at the business and enterprise select committee. Bosses at the six biggest firms in Britain may come under fire but they will argue that wholesale prices are having an irreversible impact, the Press Association noted. Chief executives from Scottish & Southern Energy, Scottish Power, E.ON, npower, EDF and British Gas are due to be in attendance. Energywatch has stated that bill payers are being asked to hand out 15% more for gas and electricity than before. Centrica, the parent firm of British Gas, has already revealed that it may try to boost operating margins this year. A consultation paper released by the government stated last week that green energy policies could mean consumers are charged more anyway.
