A "green revolution" in energy could be about to begin in the UK under new plans released by Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Mr Brown said that he will look to meet renewable European Union energy targets by 2020 and the creation of more wind turbines will be one way in which this can be done, reports the Guardian. He suggested that the North Sea could be transformed to move away from oil and gas capabilities and instead be used to generate wind power. And incentives will be given to energy operators, he added, if they ensure that demand from consumers is reduced and not increased. "It will be a tenfold increase on our current deployment of renewables and a 300% increase on our existing plans: the most dramatic change in our energy policy since the advent of nuclear power," he commented. People who own their homes will also be encouraged to help the environment with greener forms of energy production, Mr Brown remarked. Director of the Renewable Energy Association Philip Wolfe said earlier this week that the government has to prove it can perform in this area.
