An energy official has criticised the policy adopted by companies in the European Union and said that this should be more universal. President of Repsol YPF Antonio Brufau stated that this could lead to further progress in the bloc and more cooperation. Moreover, a balance should be struck between international and national oil firms, Mr Brufau noted, to see where each of them belongs to. Funding measures may also be altered, he added, with a move towards research in the technology sector. And contracts with oil producers may be more streamlined if a common approach is created, he said. "We have to have one single voice, one single policy, one single market," he told the Financial Times. "The question is: should we be subsidising agriculture or new technologies?" Earlier this week, the Commons public accounts committee stated that households could save hundreds of pounds a year on energy bills if they do small things such as turning off the lights.
