Consumers take 'energy saving steps'

11 July 2008

An increasing number of consumers are taking steps to reduce the amount of energy that they are wasting, it has been suggested. According to Raymond McGloin, head of business sales at npower, more people are becoming aware of the rising price of oil and energy. Consumers are realising there is a "need to focus on energy saving", he said. "Generally people are starting to see that energy is no longer a commodity; [it] has moved itself into a price bracket where it’s starting to push prices up everywhere," he remarked. Furthermore, Mr McGloin stated that npower is helping small businesses to contribute to energy saving goals by completing temperature checks several times each year. A recent survey from npower business revealed that three-quarters of employees are intending to change their use of computers and electronic equipment in the summer in a bid to implement energy saving measures.
