Many people in the UK could be set to pay more for their gas and electricity, a new report has suggested. The warning came from British Gas owner Centrica and Eclipse Energy Group, which stated that bills could increase to more than £1,000 a year if oil stays at the same price it stands at presently. Wholesale energy markets are being impacted on by the cost of a barrel of oil, the organisation contended, currently $140 (£70). Managing Director at Centrica Jake Ulrich told Channel 4 News that there are measures that consumers will have to take. "I think people will use less energy and I hate to go back to the Jimmy Carter days in the US but maybe it's two jumpers instead of one," he commented. Chief Executive at the company Sam Laidlaw added that this "leaves no doubt about the energy crunch we are facing and the real impact this will have on consumers". Recently, uSwitch.com urged customers to change to capped energy deals as they could save money this way.
