E.ON has become the third major energy supplier to put up its gas and electricity prices ahead of the winter, following similar moves by EDF Energy and British Gas.
From August 22nd, E.ON customers will see their electricity costs increase by 16% and their gas bills rise by 26%, putting further pressure on budgets.
According to uSwitch.com, the latest increases will bring the average annual household bill for customers on E.ON's dual fuel tariff to £1,297, up from £1,063.
Ann Robinson, Director of Consumer Policy at the independent price comparison site, said consumers will need to adjust quickly to rising gas and electricity prices.
"There are two key steps to this - making sure we pay the lowest possible price for our energy and learning to use less of it," she remarked.
E.ON insisted that the decision to put up prices was not an easy one to make and said the increases have been kept as low as possible in the face of rising wholesale costs.
