E.ON cuts bills for electricity-only customers

5 December 2008

Gas and electricity provide E.ON has responded to an Ofgem report on energy market competition by bringing down bills for its electricity-only customers.

The company said households without a mains gas supply in the East Midlands, the east of England and the north-west will see their annual electricity bills cut by £14.

Earlier this year, Ofgem claimed that many consumers were missing out on the benefits of competition in the energy marketplace.

Indeed, it said those without access to mains gas were unable to obtain discounts on dual fuel tariffs, which only those with both gas and electricity supplies are able to sign up for.

Commenting on the decision, E.ON's Managing Director Graham Bartlett said: "We've decided to level the playing field in our core regions by passing on this special reduction."

Last month, E.ON announced that it hopes to reduce gas and electricity prices for its customers as soon as possible next year.

Electricity-only customers could get a better deal by switching to a new supplier.
