Becoming energy efficient is more of a priority to over-55s than it is for younger generations, according to research by Opus Energy.
The business gas and electricity provider found that the baby boomer generation are more likely to reduce their bills by cutting their energy consumption.
For example, people in this age group are three times more likely to switch off phone chargers when not in use than under-25s.
Furthermore, some 88% of over-55s have switched to energy saving light bulbs compared to 66% of younger people.
Louise Boland, Director at Opus Energy, said: "It's clear that having lived through two recessions, our older generations are more adept at taking steps to save on their energy usage to cut their bills."
In related gas and electricity news, the Energy Retail Association has launched a new helpline for those struggling to pay their bills this winter, offering energy saving tips and advice.
Households eager to cut their bills should consider switching to a more competitive energy tariff.
