The decreasing wholesale cost of energy is making prices lower for consumers, it is claimed. A report from Ofgem notes that five suppliers have so far responded to the reduction in costs, with the body also monitoring the market to ensure people are getting the best deal. It states that Scottish and Southern Energy is offering its customers a reduction in electricity prices by slashing them by an average of 4%, while offering a 4% decrease on gas costs. Furthermore, EDF is also looking to pass on the benefits to its consumers, reducing electricity prices for users in the south-east, south-west, London, Wales and Scotland by around 8.8%. Earlier this week, uSwitch.com urged customers to look into the best options for their energy bills in order to save money, with a number of energy suppliers announcing price cuts averaging at 4.6%.
