Electricity and gas suppliers are to be targeted if they are seen to be treating consumers unfairly, it has been announced.
Ofgem, the energy regulator, is to give consumers and small businesses more power in the market, which will be coupled with a ban on unjustified price differences.
Ann Robinson, Director of Consumer Policy at uSwitch.com, comments: "This is great news for consumers and small business owners and should put them in control of what they pay for their energy.
"It introduces much needed clarity to enable consumers to make the comparisons they need to ensure that they are on the best possible deal."
Consumers will be given greater financial transparency, Ofgem reveals, which will enable them to have confidence that the price they are paying is both fair and competitive.
Ofgem recently announced that a fall in wholesale energy prices was being passed on to customers in some instances, with five suppliers introducing reductions. Compare gas and electricity suppliers online now.
