Britons 'dread visits from tradesmen despite potential benefits'

15 April 2009

Many people dread tradesmen turning up at their doors, despite the benefits their services could bring, it is believed.

New research from npower shows this is the case for 28% of the public, with a higher percentage of females than males fearing a knock at the door.

Of those questioned, 65% said they would like the tradesman to be polite, while one-fifth request they take off their shoes when entering their homes.

"These pet peeves are very common - but it may be that the British public are simply using the wrong companies," reveals Chris Thewlis, head of operations at npower hometeam.

People can search online to check which company is going to be best for them.

The YouGov research also reveals 60% of the public hate waiting around for tradesmen to arrive, while 85% simply want them to turn up when they say they will.

Last month, npower announced it was to reduce its electricity prices by 8%.
