Being more energy-efficient and using renewable technologies could help Britain save £12.6 billion a year, it is claimed.
Research published by the Renewable Energy Association (REA) shows the measures could help save around 1% of the country's gross domestic product.
"There is an overwhelming tide of evidence to justify the twin track of energy efficiency and renewables and this adds to it," states Simon Hughes, Liberal Democrat climate change spokesman.
Director-General of the REA Philip Wolfe says the results prove that going green need not be a costly experience, adding that moving towards renewable energy sources is "essential for the economy".
Consumers can do their bit for the environment by switching to a more environmentally-friendly energy plan.
The Committee on Climate Change recently urged the government to reduce emissions of all greenhouse gases in the UK by at least 34% in 2020 relative to 1990 levels.
