British Gas reductions 'should give rise to other cuts'

8 May 2009

Energy suppliers are being encouraged to follow the lead of British Gas by cutting the cost of customers' bills, says uSwitch.com.

The provider announced it was cutting the cost of electricity bills by 10% for its customers, who will save an average of £132 on their annual bill.

"Rather than holding out for further price cuts, consumers should help themselves now by making sure they are paying the lowest possible price for their energy and learning to use less of it," advised Ann Robinson, Director of Consumer Policy at uSwitch.com.

She added that British Gas is helping its customers achieve this by providing the cheapest online plan on the market.

Gas prices were slashed by the company on February 19th and were expected to benefit more than seven million households across the country.
