Consumers are being urged to take early steps to avoid heating difficulties this coming winter.
In advice printed in Glasgow's Daily Record, Scottish Gas advised the public to take some boiler maintenance measures in the summer sunshine, rather than waiting until the weather turns colder when it may take longer to deal with a problem.
It said that the smart thing for anyone with an annual boiler service due to do would be to book it early in order to choose a convenient time and avoid the hassle that can be caused by turning on the boiler for the first time in the winter months, only to discover a problem.
Switching on the boiler for a few minutes will flag up any immediate problems, which should be dealt with by a Corgi-registered engineer.
"Check your radiators. If they're not warming up, there is probably air trapped inside. Use a radiator key and bleed the air - it takes a few minutes but it's effective," is the advice from Scottish Gas.
"Don't have a radiator key? Pop into your hardware store and buy one."
