British Gas offers council tax discount

16 August 2006

British Gas is set to give thousands of households in the Ellesmere Port region a council tax rebate if they install cavity wall installation.

Customers in Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council will receive £50 off their council tax bill as well as an anticipated £100 saving on their yearly heating bill by improving their home's insulation.

Cavity wall insulation will cost around £250 for most properties to install with larger four-bedroom detached houses costing around £275.

Paul Ince, housing strategy unit manager for the borough, said: "This really is a great offer. The cost has been subsidised by British Gas and by the time households receive their council tax rebate and benefit from savings on their heating bills, the insulation will easily have paid for itself in 12 to 18 months.

"Our aim is to help people make their homes warmer and more comfortable while saving money on their fuel bills and helping to minimise carbon emissions, which are damaging to the environment."
