HomeCall+, the stand-alone emergency cover provider, has warned that thousands of householders will suffer the unnecessary misery of no heating or hot water due to boiler breakdown this winter.
According to the cover provider, British Gas was called out over 60,000 times a week for emergency boiler repairs during a cold snap last year – an average cost of £185 per consumer.
John Williams, HomeCall+ managing director, said: "The decision to avoid laying out on costly insurance with the likes of British Gas or Seeboard to cover this common problem comes back to bite many consumers in the pocket.
"But there is no need to go into the red to solve breakdown blues this winter."
HomeCall+ allows consumers to access emergency repairs to their boiler and household utilities for just £8.95 per month.
Mr Williams added: "Times have changed – there's no need to call out the big names – and pay the big bills – of the likes of British Gas or Seeboard to fix domestic utility breakdowns."
