The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) has commented on the role energy efficiency will play in the property market moving forward.
CML's comments follow energy announcements from both Ofgem and Linden Homes. Ofgem has recently offered incentives to households who use micro-generation systems while Linden Homes has stated that houses that install ground source heat pumps could cut their energy bills by 70%.
Sue Anderson, CML spokesperson, spoke about whether energy efficiency would become an important selling point in the property market.
She said: "It certainly isn't at the moment. It remains to be seen really and that depends on how the government seeks to provide incentives to move in that direction.
"We have had a recent announcement from the government to mortgage lenders to consider green mortgages, but there is no evidence from our members that energy is high on the list of buyers' concerns or issues.
"However that could change over time, it depends on how much the lenders and buyers are encouraged to do that."
