Disenco Energy is working in conjunction with motorsport specialists Prodrive to create the latest eco-friendly way of running central heating in a move which could see the humble boiler sidelined within a few years.
The system works by using micro combined heat and power (mCHP) which is more efficient than domestic boilers and also creates excess electricity which can be sold back to the National Grid.
As well as being more than 90% efficient converting 70-80% of the available energy in natural gas for central heating and between 10 and 25% into electricity, it will also reduce the consumer's carbon footprint by producing between two and six tonnes less CO2 per year.
Commenting on the joint venture, Simon Ambler, Chief Executive of Disenco, said: "You wouldn't normally imagine that one of the world's leading motorsport businesses could help develop technology to replace your boiler at home.
"However, British motorsport is at the cutting edge of so many new technologies that it is in fact the perfect environment to rapidly commercialise this exciting technology."
