Former paralympic medallist Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson has shown her support for a new National Energy Action (NEA) initiative in Wales.
The 37-year-old disabled athlete is set to give her backing to the NEA's Beat the Cold campaign as part of this year's NEA Cymru conference in Cardiff.
It may not seem a pressing issue now, as the summer months approach, but according to the NEA, nearly 300,000 homes across Wales cannot afford enough fuel to get them through the winter months.
Targets have been put in place by the Welsh Assembly Government to eradicate fuel poverty among the elderly and the most disadvantaged homes by 2010.
Commenting on the cause, Cardiff-born Dame Tanni said: "I am pleased to be supporting the work that NEA Cymru carries out. This charity tirelessly campaigns to make warm homes affordable for people, particularly the elderly and vulnerable."
Nuria Zolle, Director for NEA Cymru, added: "Fuel poverty is a complex problem, and it requires real cross-sector co-operation if we are, collectively, to make a difference for the most vulnerable households in Wales."
