Conservatories seen as key to raising value

24 July 2007

Building a conservatory on your home could not only increase the value of your home but is an ecological way of keeping your new living space warm.

Having been in and out of fashion over the past 20 years, conservatories are now seen as an ideal way of extending your home.

Speaking on behalf of SmartNewHomes.com, a website that represents over 85% of all new homes currently on sale, Head of Marketing Steve Lees said of conservatories: "By definition it will [add value] because it's extra space. It's an extra room potentially.

"[And] there always has been an obligation to be environmentally friendly in terms of modern methods of construction.

"Equally, the Government is trying to push carbon-free homesso there is always going to be a slant towards that. And that can only be a good thing really."

By 2016 all newly built homes will be heated through carbon-zero methods, providing consumers with potentially cheaper heating bills if this is achieved through renewable sources.
