As Energy Saving Week draws to a close, British householders have been reminded that getting their boiler regularly serviced, as well as helping the environment, will help them keep warmer this winter.
According to Allied Surveyors, heating bills will also be reduced if boilers are kept running in top condition.
The chartered surveyors, reflecting on the need for homeowners to make their properties more energy-efficient, also recommended that "small changes" such as installing low-energy light bulbs be made at home.
Technical Director at the firm Chris Rispin commented: "In the lead-up to winter, it is important to prepare our homes for every eventuality."
A pledge signed this year by Tony Blair commits the UK to cutting 20% of its carbon emissions by 2020.
The week of environmentally-friendly events, organised by the Energy Saving Trust, aims to attract commitments from both multi-national companies and individuals to provide details of how they will cut their 20%.
