A major campaign from charity Age Concern, which aims to improve central heating services for pensioners during the winter months, has received further backing.
Cheshire Building Society said yesterday that it would be promoting pin badges issued by the charity for its Snowman Appeal across its branches.
Customer donations for the badges will then be paid directly into an Age Concern account, set up by Cheshire.
Sponsorship Manager at the lender Maria Mathieson said: "We are delighted to once again support Age Concern's Snowman Appeal.
"The appeal has proved successful in previous years and we have high hopes to beat the figure raised last year."
This winter, the charity has moved to highlight excess winter deaths among older people due to the cold - of which there were over 22,000 in 2006/07, according to government figures.
Age Concern is therefore lobbying energy firms to keep fuel bills affordable, and also promoting the various grants and discounts available for pensioners having trouble heating their homes.
