People need to think beyond the initial set-up costs when it comes to thinking about renewable energy, one expert says.
Oliver Heath, TV eco designer and speaking on behalf of npower, says people lack a general awareness of what is on offer to them.
"It is going to become more beneficial to be living sustainably, and energy tariffs will get better," comments Mr Heath.
He adds that adding solar panels or taking other eco-friendly measures to improve a home is an investment, singling it out from other homes in the area.
It will also help with the energy performance certificate a home now legally needs, Mr Heath concludes.
Research by Tickbox.net and Opinion Matters for npower in March 2009 found that 44 per cent of people are not interested in installing renewable energy generation in the home because they believe it is too expensive.
