Households should have their boilers serviced now in time for the winter months when central heating systems will be switched back on. This is the advice of safety campaigner Stacey Rodgers, who told the Huddersfield Daily Examiner that regular boiler servicing is essential to prevent dangerous faults. "This is a really good time to call someone out to check that everything's working safely and properly," said Ms Rodgers, who lost her ten-year-old son to carbon monoxide poisoning four years ago. She advised homeowners to have appliances checked by a registered Corgi engineer and to install carbon monoxide detectors in their properties. Depending on their policy, those with heating cover may find that they are entitled to free annual boiler service or safety inspection, as well as repair work if their central heating system breaks down. Abbey Insurance recently urged homeowners with oil-based central heating systems to check their heating cover policy to ensure they are protected against stolen oil following a spate of thefts.
