Households looking to save money on their heating bills should check their boiler and heating system regularly to make sure they are in a suitable working condition. This is the advice of James Parkinson, a green technology expert at Vaillant, who said consumers should ask themselves whether their boiler is over 15 years old and if so whether it needs to be replaced. He insisted households could save as much as £240 a year on their heating bills by updating to a more modern, energy efficient system. Consumers should also make sure their boiler is regularly serviced by a professional engineer. Most heating cover policies come with free annual boiler servicing as well as providing protection in the event of a system failure. According to figures from the Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes, around £6.8 billion is wasted on energy in the UK every year. This is the equivalent of £113 per person.
