Underfloor heating 'an excellent solution'

27 August 2008

Underfloor heating can be an "excellent solution" for those with limited space in their home, according to the chief executive of the heating appliance approval body HETAS. It can also be appealing to those who do not wish to have wall space taken up by bulky radiators, either for aesthetic reasons or otherwise, Bruce Allen said. He explained that "under the right circumstances", underfloor heating can be effective in both new and existing properties. "Appliances using any of the appropriate fuels or energy sources can offer hot water that feeds into a properly controlled underfloor heating system," he remarked. But he warned that installation should only be carried out by a professional to ensure the system complies with building regulations and codes. According to a report by Channel 4, wet underfloor heating systems are 30 per cent more energy efficient than traditional radiators. This could help households save on their heating bills and allow them to put the extra money towards heating cover.
