Europe spends over $31 billion on VoIP calls abroad

9 June 2005

New research has revealed that Europeans are expected to have phone bills of more than $31 billion from making international calls on Voice over IP (VoIP) this year.

The research, conducted by INSIGHT Research, states that VoIP calling revenue made up an impressive 31 per cent of the $100 billion spent in Europe on international calls.

The report also claims the attraction of VoIP has nearly peaked, and will slow as companies bring international rates into line with actual costs.

By 2011, VoIP bypass is expected to account for only $43.8 billion out of the $151 billion spent on international calling.

VoIP represents a significant way of reducing phone bills, as making calls over the internet is a cheap way of keeping in touch with people.
